Triangular in shape, the island would fit into a rectangle about 80km wide by 90km high and has a road measured perimeter of about 360km. Mount Teide, the volcano which dominates the centre of the island stands 3718 metres high and is the highest point in Spain. The mountain divides the island in two contrasting parts. Southern Tenerife is much warmer and dryer and has a more desert appearence than the more lush tropical appearence of the North.
